Special Information:
Events will be held over the course of the October 24th - October 26th weekend.

Join the Institute for African American Studies and Pamoja Connections Inc. during the joint Mental Health and Advocacy Weekend and the 55th Pamoja Groups Anniversary. The events are from Friday, October 24th - Sunday, October 26th at various venues throughout the UGA campus and in Athens, Ga.

We will celebrate the Pamoja tradition of Togetherness by gathering our community across multiple days for a festival of celebrations. The Pamoja groups have fifty-five years of excellence in performing arts & professional journalism groups at the University of Georgia. Pamoja's rich history began in 1970 when Nawanna Lewis Miller founded the student organizations of Pamoja which means "together" in Swahili.

We will recognize the African American Choral Ensemble “AACE”, Pamoja Dance Company, the Black Theatrical Ensemble "BTE" (founded by Larry Calhoun in 1976 and formerly Pamoja Drama and Arts), InfUSion Magazine, and the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) throughout our historic celebration weekend.

Please join us for a variety of events that will allow us to come together for conversation and a premier screening of the Pamoja documentary. Join us to learn more about the living history that enriches the network of UGA's community.

Support African American Studies at UGA

The Institute defines support in diverse ways to give you as many options as possible to assist in our mission. We consider “friend-raising" as important as fund-raising. Your financial contributions and support help us to develop and strengthen our programs and offerings, both on campus and in the community.

Your gift makes a big difference. Learn more about how you can donate today.

Study within African American cultural history provides a basis for understanding political, social, and economic relations throughout human history.
