IAAS, with the help of University of Georgia Franklin College and the Willson Center, will be hosting the dynamic author and artist Hattie Thomas Whitehead. She will be speaking with us after the premiere of her special production  Linnentown: The Musical, premiering on September 12th -14th at the Classic Center Theatre in Athens, Ga.

Linnentown: The Musical and the co-thematic book, Giving Voice to Linnentown tells the story of historic Linnentown. A Black community in Athens, Ga. that has experienced and is still struggling form the tumultuous turn of gentrification and urban renewal.

Please join us for a lively discussion with living history figure Hattie Thomas Whitehead in the Holmes Hunter classroom and then for a casual luncheon in the Institute for African American Studies library after the talk.

This is an event that will enlighten you about local Black Athens history and connect local history with national and global stories. If you want to support community theatre, please catch this show at its premiering dates and buy tickets HERE.
