The milestone celebration will take place April 20–26, 2026, and will feature performances, screenings, exhibits, and alumni engagement activities.Founded in 1976 by journalism graduate student Larry Calhoun, BTE was established to provide Black students with a creative home for storytelling, performance, and cultural expression. What began as a grassroots initiative has grown into one of UGA's most enduring and influential student arts organizations.Over the years, BTE has expanded its mission to include original playwriting, poetry readings, and film programming, launching the careers of numerous accomplished artists. Notable alumni include actor Omari Hardwick, acclaimed performer Tituss Burgess, actor and producer V.J.
